What is your role at 3rd Coast PR?
As an Account Executive, my role is to help execute programs that are tailored to fit the needs of our clients. Whether it is monitoring social media, pitching the media a story, or researching bloggers, everything intertwines to create meaningful awareness for the brands that we represent.

Describe your typical day at the agency.
A typical day for me is anything but typical! It changes all of the time based on what is priority for the day. That is the reason why I love working at an agency—I get to switch gears at any given time, keeping me on my toes and ready for the next challenge. One day I will be pitching a TV producer, and the next I will be putting together suggestions for a client on what blogger would be best to represent them, or maybe I will be analyzing a monthly report to see what trends are and are not working on social media. I will say that each start to my day begins with a good skim of the daily news.

How did you get into public relations?
I really got serious about a career in public relations when I had my first internship with Big Brothers Big Sisters. As a nonprofit, they did not have the funds to put towards a big ad campaign, so with the help of some free publicity that I secured, they were able to recruit local adult volunteers to help children in need of mentorship. It was interesting to see what a powerful tool a press release was. A piece of paper translated into making a difference in a child’s life. It was then that I decided that I wanted to continue to make a difference.

What is one piece of advice you’d give yourself that you wish you would have known when you first started out?
People in the media are human, just like me! Have a conversation with them rather than pitching them with a robot voice reading a script.

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of work?
I enjoy cooking, playing volleyball, and throwing a frisbee for my dog, Chevy. My husband and I love to bike around, so you may spot me out and about exploring the great city of Chicago that we live in!
